How to change your Instagram account to a creator or business account

Instagram has updated its API, which means we can no longer connect to personal Instagram accounts. Don’t worry, this won’t impact your ability to share content for missions! However, to reconnect your Instagram account to your profile, you’ll need to switch to a Creator or Business account. This is quick, free, and gives you access to exclusive features like audience insights and post analytics.

How do I change my Instagram account to a Creator or Business Account?

Desktop

  1. Go to your Profile on the community or the Instagram connect button on a mission
  2. Click on Connect for Instagram
  3. This redirects you to Instagram and it will show Change to Professional Account
  4. Click Change
  5. Now you will pick either Creator or Business. Most of our users will be Creators.
  6. The workflow will take you to the Creator or Business information
  7. It will ask to Select the category
  8. Click Done and you will be moved to Professional
  9. Go back to your Profile on the community
  10. Click on Connect
  11. The authorization page will appear
  12. Click Allow
  13. It should redirect back to the community and be connected

Mobile

  1. Go to your Profile on the community or the Instagram connect button on a mission
  2. Click on Connect for Instagram
  3. This redirects you to an Instagram login page unless you are already logged in on your browser and it will show Change to Professional Account
  4. Now you will pick either Creator or Business. Most of our users will be Creators.
  5. The workflow will take you to the Creator or Business information
  6. It will ask to Select the category
  7. The authorization page will appear
  8. Click Allow
  9. It should redirect back to the community and be connected

If the link doesn’t redirect to the Instagram app, how can I switch my account to a Creator or Business Account to connect it to my profile?

Desktop

  1. Navigate to Instagram
  2. Click on More with the three lines
  3. Click on Settings
  4. Scroll down to Account type and tools
  5. Click on Switch to Professional Account
  6. Now you will pick either Creator or Business. Most of our users will be Creators.
  7. The workflow will take you to the Creator or Business information
  8. It will ask to Select the category
  9. Click Done and you will be moved to Professional
  10. Go back to your Profile on the community
  11. Click on Connect
  12. The authorization page will appear

Mobile

  1. Navigate to the Instagram App

  3. Click on the three lines at the top of the profile
  4. Scroll down to Account type and tools under the For Professionals section
  5. Click on Switch to professional account
  6. Click Next

  9. It will ask to Select the category
  10. Click Done and you will be moved to Professional
  11. Go back to your Profile on the community
  12. Click on Connect
  13. The authorization page will appear

  15. It should redirect back to the community and be connected

Why am I receiving an error message when I try to connect my Instagram account to my profile?

If you receive this error "error_type": "OAuthException", "code": 400, "error_message": "Your activity off Meta technologies is currently turned off.", when trying to connect, this means that your Activity off Meta technologies is currently turned off. You can switch this on, you will be able to connect your Instagram.

Desktop

  1. The error message: "error_type": "OAuthException", "code": 400, "error_message": "Your activity off Meta technologies is currently turned off." comes up
  2. Go to your Facebook > Settings >Off-Facebook Activity or go to your Meta Account Centre > Your information and permissions
  3. Click on Manage Future Activity
  4. Click on Connect future activity as a choice
  5. Click Continue to accept and you will be able to connect your Instagram

Mobile

  1. The error message: "error_type": "OAuthException", "code": 400, "error_message": "Your activity off Meta technologies is currently turned off." comes up
  2. Go to your Instagram App
